UNESCO considers intangible cultural heritage to be a key factor for cultural diversity, environmental sustainability, creativity and the promotion of intercultural dialogue.   The Water Tribunal of the plain of Valencia was inscribed in 2009 on UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage together with the Council of Wise Men of the plain of Murcia, representing the irrigation courts of Mediterranean Spain, in the context of the first world call for candidatures.

On the tenth anniversary of the Water Tribunal as Intangible Heritage of Humanity (September 27th 2009), the Water Tribunal and the Universitat de València have organised several events throughout 2019 with the aim of visualising this event as part of the conference El Tribunal de las Aguas y su X Aniversario como Patrimonio Inmaterial de la Humanidad (The Water Tribunal and its 10th Anniversary as Intangible Heritage of Humanity), in which lecturers from the Universitat de València, technicians from the Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Government) and the Water Tribunal, all of them experts in the field, will take part.

The towns where these sessions will take place are:  Quart de Poblet, Llíria, Picanya and Alboraia.
