1st Conference on Education for Sustainability

On 13th February, the Chair of Economy for the Common Good of the Universitat de València will participate in the 1st Conference on Education for Sustainability and Economy for the Common Good, organised by the Escuela de Emprendedores Sostenibles y Natura y Cultura Servicios Ambientales.

 

The aim of the conference is to be a meeting point in the educational field, where ideas, reflections, projects and experiences are shared and exposed. Thus, pursuing new economic models of consumption and sustainable development, that allow to reach the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

 

The conference will focus on three presentations that will revolve around the significance of the educational system in the orientation of a sustainable economic model. It will also address topics such as the principles for a new sustainable economic model that promotes the common good, the role of educational centres and innovative education as a tool for change and fertilization of the territory and, finally, the presentation of two experiences of educational innovation to work the economic perspective: School for Sustainable Entrepreneurs (SEE) and Schools for the SDG.

 

The event, which will take place at the Antic Mercat of Torrent (València) from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., is aimed at members of the educational community as well as technicians and public officials related to education, the environment and local development, in addition to personnel from companies with a sustainable profile and who develop training and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.

Among the activities carried out by the Chair are seminars for students, which seek to disseminate the virtues of the cooperative model, in general, and the agri-food model, in particular, among university students. The aim of these seminars is to increase the number of young people who see agri-food cooperativism as an ideal field for the development of their professional career, either in the academic or technical field. Thus, it is complemented by the Prize for the Best Academic Work (Degree’s Final Project, Master’s Degree Final Project or Doctoral Thesis) to encourage Degree’s or Master’s Degree students in legal, accounting or tax subjects to receive specialized training in this field.

 

The seminars are developed in collaboration with different universities in the country. At the Universitat de València, the event will be held on 21st January at 3.30 p.m. in Classroom B3 of the Research Departments on the Tarongers Campus, with a conference entitled Cooperativas Agroalimentarias en España: situación actual y retos de futuro en el ámbito jurídico, fiscal y contable (Agri-food Cooperatives in Spain: the current situation and future challenges in the legal, tax and accounting fields), given by Tomás Rojas Pacheco, Head of the area of Finance, Tax and Internal Management of Agri-food Cooperatives in Spain. This activity is aimed at students and alumni of the Master's Degree in Social Economics organised by IUDESCOOP, as well as the rest of the academic community and other interested people.
