The Ciencia EX AEQUO exhibition at the Natural History Museum

The exhibition Ciencia EX AEQUO by Margarita Cimadevila which honours women scientists through twelve canvases focusing on women scientists of the 20th century opens on Wednesday 19th February. The exhibition can be visited until the first week of March in the MUVHN Natural History Museum of the Universitat de València at the Burjassot Campus.

Margarita Cimadevila has a Degree in Chemistry (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela), painter and Physics and Chemistry professor. Born in Sada, seaside town of La Coruña region, seashells and petroglyphs, which are so closely linked to her land, have a strong presence in her pictorial work.

In addition of its undoubtable artistic value, her work has a strong didactic and disseminative vocation.

The paintings are inspired by the scientific work done by each of these women: physicist Lise Meitner, chemist Ida Tacke Noddack, astronomer Annie Jump Cannon, astronomer Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin, physicist Chien-Shiung Wu, chemist Marguerite Perey, crystallographer Rosalind Franklin, biologist Nettie Stevens, astrophysicist Jocelyn Bell Burnell, astronomer Henrietta Swan Leavitt, mathematician Emmy Noether, and seismologist Inge Lehmann.

All the paintings integrate shells and seashells as ornamental pieces; and some of the ingredients describe the research of the referenced scientist.

The opening ceremony will take place next Wednesday 19th February at 12 p.m. in the Lise Meitner Room of the Faculty of Physics. Margarita Cimadevila will be present.

The activity is organised by the Equality Commission of the Burjassot Campus and is supported by the Equality Unit.
