José Luis de Oriol Urigüen, Marià Peset Aleixandre

1908 1933

The building of the old Faculty of Sciences was based in an original project by architect José Luis Oriel in 1908, which was modified in 1933 by architect Mariono Peset Aleixandre, brother of then rector Juan Peset Aleixandre.

Following a rationalist style, the exterior dome of the astronomic observatory is a singular and distintive element of this centre.

This construction, along with the Faculty of Medicine, was one of the first buildings erected in the Blasco Ibáñez campus.

Given its architectural interest, the Rector's Office appears in the data base of the communitary project ARCH XX SUDOE, 20th century architecture carried out in Spain, Gibraltar and the south-west of France. Because of its relevance, the building is included in the current General Plan of Valencia as a Bé de Rellevància Local (BRL), in the category of Monument of Local Interest.
