In this exhibition, Manuel Boix. La Nave, el viaje del tiempo, (Manuel Boix, The Ship, the journey of time) it is presented a new pictorial series of large-format and that in some cases had the inspiration of “university treasures” stored at the University of Valencia, in any of the fields of science and erudition; in other occasions it has been suggested by the contemporary universal literature; and, finally are also the result of passage of time and lucidity with which the artist makes the dissection of the world around him.

White and black (or rather: all colour scheme of black and white) are used by Boix as the supreme expression of colour with a clear intention in each of the creations that makes them become thought and reflection, actions that are, also, “heritage” of the University, which promotes the public exhibition of these works.

The exhibition Manuel Boix. La Nave, el viaje del tiempo that presents the University of Valencia strengths the illustrated meaning of the never-ending Boix reflections and encourages to the Valencian artist to capture on canvas and sculptures the joy of thought and life treasures. The University of Valencia, in addition of the prestige achieved by its teaching and research daily work, also it is an space of freedom and, above all, the place where are gathered more than five hundred years of our history.

By the time that the renowned artist Manuel Boix –among other merits, received the National Award of Plastic Arts-the University of Valencia proposed him to develop and present an exhibition project for the Sala Academia, it was unaware of his audacity. After a period of reflection and rich creativity, Manuel Boix, conclude his proposal offering the name of a new series, with his recent and sublime plastic creations, subtitled La Nau, el viaje del tiempo, he aims to create an artistic dialogue and a deep reflection, with no concessions with the arbitrary, on some heritage pieces of the University of Valencia and in which Boix has stopped, selected and integrated his proposal. The University of Valencia is very grateful to this generous exhibition exercise by Manuel Boix, where his paintings and sculptures- with their own artistic language, totally consolidated- get closer and construct a dialogue, a link, with a series of cultural properties belonging to the different heritage collections of our University. Contemporary Art that cohabites and fertilises of a series of objects and documents-of special interest and signification for our cultural history-related to different areas of knowledge: mapping, medicine, natural history, literature, glyptics…

The University of Valencia considers this exhibition a university recognition to the authenticity and rigor with which Manuel Boix faces his work as an artist. Undoubtedly, this is the key and the best artistic mark that Manuel Boix has practiced-and will continue practicing-for the different generations of Valencian Contemporary artists. Because Boix and his artistic creations are based on artistic criteria where beauty flows with the strength and tenacity of the thoughtful work, where intention –nonexempt of commitment- has been and is the central concept of his daily work. Manuel Boix is an artist open to the world with the need to constantly rethink him from the universality that transmits his home, his family, his friends and his workshop in L’Alcudia.
