Sometimes a vague sense of fragility seems to prevail in the domain of art with regard to the form of the knowledge production and to the work of the professionals of the field. But the obstacle that could induce this situation, certainly usual, the fighting forces in the field – every actor in the role given to themselves: artistic, critic, inspector, museum manager and gallery owner – produce on the other hand an enrichment of the cultural, economic and historical texture.

 

In this way, the fundamental role of public and private institutions, as well as the role of the galleries of contemporary art has been to strengthen the work, mainly independent, of the artist in the consolidation of the art culture. Then we can see an important value of the work of the contemporary art galleries, represented here by LaVac, since the stable exhibition of the most current production of the contemporary art. They maintain the monitoring of the career of the artist and, moreover, they offer the option to be able to enjoy other artists who work outside of the institutions, emerging artist or with a more discontinuous career, but indispensable for the cultural texture.

 

Specifically, in the Valencian context, LaVac (Association of Contemporary Art Galleries of Autonomous Community of Valencia) receives 15 of the galleries whose mission prevails the commitment to the contemporary art. LaVac is currently formed by Luis Adelantado, Aural, Benlliure, Isabel Bilbao, Alba Cabrera, Cànem, Espaivisor, Misterpink, Galería del Palau, Parking Gallery, pazYcomedias, Punto, Rosa Santos, Rosalía Sender, Set Espai d’Art, Espai Tactel, Galería Thema, Trentatres and Galería 9.

 

It should also be noted that the union of all of them under LaVac benefits its performance when it’s time to develop common projects such as collective expositions, shared inaugurations or the celebration of the opening of the exhibition season with Abierto Valencia. And all this, without entering upon labor of economic payments in the process of registration of the work in the art market and collecting.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This last chapter, the collecting of contemporary art, today rewards the work of the galleries. The Cañada Blanch Foundation shows its recognition for its work, in the second edition of its call: the 2nd Acquisition Prize Cañada Blanch Foundation, which gives a prize (the purchase of a piece) and the works are showed at Cultural Centre La Nau of Universitat de València, which collaborates with the proposal. The artists’ selection that the galleries represent has been prepared from the budget relating to the value of the prize.

 

The importance of the philanthropic work that Vicente Cañada Blanch developed during his lifetime has been seconded since the 70s by the foundation named after him. The foundation continues with its legacy and social work supporting the culture, the research, the arts and the promotion of talented young people. That’s why its effort to take care the humanistic legacy of Cañada Blanch can be seen today with this approach to the work of LaVac by the economic contribution valued in a prize to the emerging creation/young art and it will have greater prestige and significance in future seasons.

 

Finally, we keep going the given prize by Cañada Blanch wants to honour the active representation of the artists through the galleries of contemporary art, thus contemplating its mediator role between an in-and-out of the society and the artistic production.
