The REDINTER technician from the Centre for Research on Desertification (CIDE, CSIC-UV-GVA) attended the information day on clusters 5 and 6 of Horizon Europe, organised by the International Programmes Area of the Vice-Presidency for International Relations (API-VRI) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) on 27 January.

The strategic and political priorities of the European Union include achieving a more sustainable and resilient Europe. This is also reflected in the priorities of its framework programme for research and innovation (R&I) for the period 2021-2027, Horizon Europe. One of the three pillars underpinning this programme focuses on global challenges and European industrial competitiveness and consists of six thematic clusters. CIDE has previously participated in two of these: Climate, Energy and Mobility (cluster 5) and Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment (cluster 6).

The different research topics that both clusters will address in 2026 and 2027 were discussed at the conference, which was organised by the International Programmes Area of the Vice-Presidency for International Relations (API-VRI) of the CSIC, with the participation of some National Contact Points (NCPs) from the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI). In addition, some recommendations and best practices for planning a project and preparing its proposal were presented, and a success story was discussed at the round table.

CIDE's REDINTER technician, Celia Espín, who is part of the CSIC's network of internationalisation offices and technical staff, attended the conference as part of the REDINT_CIDE project funded by CSIC's REDINTER 2024 call for proposals. All the information discussed at the conference is essential for identifying possible ways in which CIDE can advance knowledge of the environment in a collaborative and international setting.
