The postdoc researcher Jose Antonio Navarro Cano, from the Plant Ecology Department of the Desertification Research Centre (CIDE- CSIC, UV, GV) has participated in the radio program Club de Ciencias, emitted by the radio station Onda Regional de Murcia last 20th May. The program tackled the historical environmental problems due to the metal mining industry and the emerging restoration solutions that are being nowadays carried out in the sierra Minera mining district (Murcia). J A Navarro is the CIDE’s scientific manager to assist the Fundación Sierra Minera in the restoration programme within the European project LIFE Tetraclinis. He talked about the potential pollution risk of mine tailings for the environment and human health and the new phytomanagement strategies that are being developed to diminish their ecological impact.
