The supervision of the doctoral student’s theses is a direct task of the director (and tutor, where appropriate) and the doctoral programme academic committee who look out for the quality of the theses submitted.

Once admitted and enrolled in the Doctoral Studies Programme, all doctoral students will be assigned a tutor, a doctor with proven research experience, who will be responsible of ensuring the interaction of the doctoral student with the academic committee and, specially:

· For the adequacy of training and research activity of the doctoral student at the beginning of the programme and, if applicable, of the doctoral school.

· For guiding the student in choosing courses, seminars and other non regulated activities

The doctoral thesis’ director is ultimately responsible for conducting all the research works of the doctoral student, being responsible for the consistency and adequacy of the training activities, impact and novelty in its field, the topic of the doctoral thesis, the guidance in planning, and adaptation, if appropriate, to other projects and activities where the doctoral student is enrolled.

Before the end of the first year, doctoral students will make a research plan supported by the supervisor and the director. This plan has to include the methodology and goals, the mediums and the time planning as well as the favourable report of the Ethical Committee on Experimental Research of the UV, in the cases mentioned.

This plan can be improved throughout their stay in the doctoral programme and must be supported by the supervisor and the director. The tasks of guidance and monitoring of the doctoral students’ activities will be assumed by the  tutor, to ensure doctoral student interaction with the Academic Committee. In this regard, the tutor will issue an annual report on the Research Plan that will join the doctoral student’s Activities Document.

Every year, the Academic Committee will assess the research plan and the activities document together with the reports issued by the supervisor and the director. The positive evaluation will be a requirement to be able to continue in the programme.
