The Met Office, produces and delivers weather forecasts from a range of deterministic and ensemble numerical weather prediction models, which are used to generate a wide array of products to deliver to customers worldwide.

Within the organisation, Weather Science (https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/weather) provides the scientific and operational capabilities that deliver our short to medium-range weather forecasts. The Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) system is the core activity to improve the quality of weather forecasts. Accurate weather forecasts require the assimilation of space- and surface-based observations, the assessment and scientific understanding of NWP models to better represent the physical processes in the atmosphere.
