Doctoral Programme in Contemporary History

Basic competencies:

  1. Systematic understanding of a field of study and mastery of the skills and methods of research associated with that field.
  2. Ability to conceive, design or create, implement and adopt a substantial process of research or creation.
  3. Ability to contribute to the expansion of the frontiers of knowledge through original research.
  4. Ability to carry out a critical and assessment analysis and synthesis of new and complex ideas.
  5. Ability to communicate with the academic and scientific community and society in general about their areas of knowledge in the ways and languages commonly used in the international scientific community.
  6. Ability to promote, within academic and professional contexts, scientific, technological, social, artistic or cultural advancement in a knowledge-based society.

Personal abilities and skills:

  1. Knowing how to navigate in contexts where there is little specific information.
  2. Finding the key questions that must be answered to solve a complex problem.
  3. Designing, creating, developing and launching new and innovative projects in their field of knowledge.
  4. Working both in team and independently in an international or multidisciplinary context.
  5. Integrating knowledge, handling complexity, and making judgments with limited information.
  6. The criticism and intellectual defence of solutions.

  1. Having acquired advanced knowledge in the frontier of knowledge and demonstrate, in the environment of scientific research internationally known, a depth understanding, detailed and based on theoretical and practical aspects and of scientific methodology in one or more research spheres.
  2. Having made an original and signifying contribution to scientific research in its field of knowledge and having this contribution been recognised as such by the international scientific communication
  3. Having shown that students are able to design a researching project with which carry out a critical analysis and an evaluation of imprecise situations where to apply their contributions, their knowledge and work methodology in order to undertake a system of novel and complex ideas that give place to a deeper knowledge in the researching environment where they work.
  4. Having developed enough autonomy to initiate, manage and lead teams and innovative research projects and national and international scientific collaborations, within its thematic area, in multidisciplinary environments and, where relevant, with a high component of knowledge transfer.
  5. Having proved that they are able to develop their researching activity with social responsibility and scientific integrity.
  6. Having justified that they are able to take part in the scientific discussions which develop at international level in their area of knowledge and disseminate the results of their researching activity to all type of publics)
  7. Having proven within their specific scientific environment that they are able to perform advances in cultural, social or technological aspects, as well as to foster the innovation in all the ambits of a society based on knowledge.


Specific competencies

 

  1. Proving a systematic understanding of the Contemporary History and the skills and methods of research of historic research.
  2. Making a contribution through an original research which expands the frontiers of knowledge in Contemporary History, by developing a substantial campus, from which emerges the publication referenced at national and international level.
  3. Being able to perform a critic analysis and of assessment and synthesis of novel and complex ideas in Contemporary History.
  4. Ability to communicate with the academic and scientific community and with society in general about issues, theories, methods and research advances in Contemporary History.
  5. Skills to foster, in academic and professional contexts, the scientific, social and cultural advance according to the fundamental rights, equality between men and women, no discrimination and , generally, the specific values of a democratic culture.
