Begoña Giner, Board member of Public Interest Oversight Board (PIOB)

Begoña Giner, Professor of Accounting and Finance in the Accounting Department and member of the Institute of International Economics (Instituto de Economía Internacional - IEI) of the Universitat de València, has been appointed, at the proposal of the European Commission (EC), Board member of Public Interest Oversight Board (PIOB). This body safeguards the public interest through independent oversight of the international audit and assurance, and ethics standards formulated by the International Standard Setting Boards. PIOB is a global organization that is made up of ten members with different profiles and from different geographical areas. Dr. Giner's appointment lasts for three years.

Professor Giner has a long international career. She has been a member of the Technical Expert Group of the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG TEG) and of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Council. She has recently been part of the Project Task Force in charge of preparing the work for the development of possible EU non-financial information standards, a task entrusted to the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) by the European Commission (EC).

From a more specific academic perspective, Dr. Giner has been President of the European Accounting Association (EAA), and at this time is the Coordinator of the EAA Stakeholder Reporting Committee.
