OBJECTIVES: On the one hand, the aim is to carry out coordinated work between a group of secondary school and university teachers. On the other hand, the aim is to motivate secondary school students towards experimental work and engineering, introducing the methods and techniques of chemical engineering and industrial processes.
CONTENTS:
BATH GEL MANUFACTURING WORKSHOP
Students will make a bath gel by observing the influence of the formulation of the raw materials on the properties of the product. They will learn about the manufacturing process on an industrial scale.
WORKSHOP FOR OBTAINING ESSENTIAL OILS FROM TANGERINE AND LIME
The aim of the workshop is to teach basic aspects of the industry's separation operations. The activity will consist of obtaining essential aromatic scents from orange and lemon, for a process of extraction by steam extraction and separation by decanting.
INSTRUMENTATION AND MEASUREMENT WORKSHOP
The activity will teach the basic principles of different types of sensors. The students will learn how they work: 1) Load cells, the student will see how by deforming them it will be possible to know their weight. 2) Conductivity meters, used to detect and monitor the presence of pollutants in water by simulating the operation of a tank/dam. 3) The manometers, by means of which the students will measure the flow losses that a fluid suffers when circulating through a pipeline.
PARTICIPANTS: Students of technology and science in 1st and 2nd year of Batxillerat and Higher Vocational Training.
