The Department of Chemical Engineering’s R&D&I Group on Materials Technology and Sustainability, in collaboration with Instituto Tecnológico del Plástico (AIMPLAS) managed to develop a process for the particulation of SEBS-based elastomers (co-polymer of Styrene-Ethylene-Butylene).
The technological challenge resides in obtaining stable particles of controlled size without agglomeration posing great difficulties via traditional processes of polymer technology.
This need was met by Researcher Amparo Cháfer, who led a research where the Spray Drying technique was applied, which is commonly used in food technology to apply thermal processes in short time spans, safely eliminating solvents without affecting the integrity of the obtainable materials.
