School of Engineering (ETSE-UV) University of Valencia

The University of Valencia celebrates this 2018-2019 academic year its 25 years of Engineering studies. The anniversary coincides with the recognition of the institution as the best Valencian centre in Engineering and Technology in the ranking Times Higher Education (THE), area where the UV ranks 301-400 worldwide, and 76-100 of the THE Europe Teaching Ranking.

The Times Higher Education, a prestigious ranking, measures the quality of teaching, research, citations, international perspective, reputation and income from industry derived from university activity. The international recognition of teaching and research carried out at the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Valencia (ETSE-UV), at the Burjassot-Paterna Campus, places the institution in the world’s first third, together with the University of Alicante, and in position 5-10 among the Spanish universities for the disciplines related to Engineering and Technology.

This recognition confirms the ascending evolution of the University of Valencia in the technological disciplines, as shown in the results obtained in other rankings. Thus, in the 2018 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) by subjects, the University of Valencia ranks 1-4 of Spain in Energy Science and Engineering, and 151-200 of the world. As for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the University is the first Valencian one and ranks 5-9 of Spain. In these two subjects it ranks 201-300 of the world.

The University of Valencia also stands out in the U-ranking, which locates all the degrees in Engineering of the University of Valencia in the first position in the Valencian Community, or the University-Emprendida Ranking of the Everis Foundation of employability of recently graduated students, which in its third edition describes the University of Valencia as the best valued in Spain by companies in the field of scientific and engineering degrees.

With the objective of continuing to contribute value to the student’s curriculum, the University completed during 2018 the evaluation process of all its engineering degrees to obtain the international seal of quality EUR-ACE® (Telematics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronic Engineering of Telecommunications and Electronic Industrial Engineering) and EURO-INF (Computer Engineering and Multimedia Engineering).

The University of Valencia is also a leader in the promotion of women’s vocation and talent towards Information and Communications Technologies, through a broad set of activities and initiatives that favour the presence of women in the academic and professional field. In this regard, ETSE-UV is among the centres with the highest percentage of women and with the highest growth among Spanish public universities and in 2018 it received the equit@T Award for the promotion of gender equity granted by the Open University of Catalonia (UOC).

Pioneering research since 1949

The Higher Technical School of Engineering is the result of a long history and experience in the University of Valencia in the fields of chemical engineering, electronics and computer science. Not surprisingly, the pioneering research of the University of Valencia in these scientific-technical fields dates back to 1949. This academic year is the 25th anniversary of the implementation of the studies with an engineering designation at the University of Valencia, following the 1993 curricula reform.

Currently, the training offer of Degrees and Masters in the fields of Computer and Multimedia Engineering, Telecommunications and Industrial Engineering has been expanded with new studies in Data Science, both at the Degree and Master levels, to cover the needs of training of specialists in this field.

The school also offers research training through the doctoral programs assigned to the departments of Computer Science, Electronic Engineering and Chemical Engineering and that is in line with the intense research activity of the consolidated research groups of the ETSE-UV and other research and transfer structures such as the University Research Institute on Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC) or the Image Processing Laboratory (IPL), among others. The transfer to the productive sectors is also very relevant in the ETSE-UV with the signing of Institutional Chairs and collaboration agreements with companies and public institutions.
