Professor Fernando Martín-Diz, member of the Sustainable justice in situation of global change (JUSOST) project, has recently participated in the conferences organised by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of International Cooperation, where he gave a lecture titled “Rules on judicial cooperation and cryptocurrency”.
During his lecture, Martín-Diz covered some of the most relevant challenges posed by criminal investigation related to cryptocurrency, a continuously growing field and one of great technical and legal complexity. Among the subjects covered, the ones which stand out are:
- Problems derived from unlawful possession of cryptocurrency.
- Scams and fraud committed through the use of cryptocurrency.
- The difficulties linked to money laundering by using these digital instruments.
- The challenges posed by cryptocurrency garnishment, a measure which demands high specialisation and transnational cooperation.
The participation of Martín-Diz highlights the importance of tackling new technological scenarios from a global and coordinated legal perspective. This viewpoint is completely aligned with the objectives of the JUSOST project, a programme oriented to promoting justice systems that are more effective and sustainable and adapted to the emerging challenges of the 21st century.
