Professor Silvia Barona Vilar participates in the seminar ‘Inteligencia artificial y Justicia Penal’ in Lima

On 30 May the seminar ‘Inteligencia artificial y Justicia Penal’ (Artificial Intelligence and Criminal Law) took place at the Sur de Lima bookstore (Peru). An event that gathered specialists and public interested in the challenges that the incorporation of new technologies in the criminal justice system involves.

Dr. Silvia Barona Vilar, Main researcher of the JUSOST Project (CIPROM 64-2023), participated with the talk ‘Tecnología, Algoritmos e Inteligencia Artificial en la Investigación, Prueba y Decisión Judicial en el proceso penal’ (Technology, Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence in Research, Testing and Judicial decision in criminal proceedings)Likewise, Mgr Pedro Infante Zapata explained his vision on ‘Nuevas tecnologías informáticas e inteligencia artificial en la investigación criminalística’ (New Technologies Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence in Criminal Research).

After both talks, there was an enriching dialogue with the public, where key questions on the use of algorithms, evidential reliability and the risks for the fundamental rights were addressed.

The seminar was consolidated as a space for rigorous scientific debate and confirmed the growing interest for a more critical and technologically informed criminal justice.
