Professor Silvia Barona Vilar, full professor of Procedural Law at the University of Valencia and main researcher on the Sustainable justice in situation of global change (JUSOST) project, was invited by the Attorney General of the State to participate as a lecturer in the course “Artificial Intelligence, personal data protection and Justice administration”. It was hosted on the 1st of December of 2025 at the Attorney General of the State’s headquarters in Madrid.
Her intervention titled “Technology, the digitalisation and the algorithmisation of Justice” expressed her expert opinion on the challenges posed by the incorporation of technological tools and algorithmic in jurisdictional activity. Barona Vilar analysed the impact created by the digitalisation process in the right to a fair trial, the risks derived from using automated systems and the need to guarantee a framework of rules which preserve fundamental rights in a context of accelerated transformation.
The course, which was organised by the Centre of Legal Studies and the Attorney General of the State, gathered specialists of great renown in fields such as artificial intelligence, ethics, philosophy of law, digital law or data protection, creating an interdisciplinary space to cover the challenges posed by AI in the justice system.
The participation of Barona Vilar reinforces the commitment from the JUSOST – CIPROM 2023-64 (GVA) to the critical analysis of the digitalisation processes and to the creation of a sustainable and transparent system adapted to the new technological circumstances.
