Round Table on "Depopulation"

On Friday 10th May, at 4pm, in the Sala Palmireno (Faculty of Geography), there will be a transverse activity to make students and attendants learn about the different aspects that take part in depopulation and how it affects the territory involved.

This round table will feature lecturers, entrepreneurs of the rural world, a sociologist specialised in women migration to rural areas and, finally, from the associative point of view, we will count with a member of the platform “Teruel Existe” (Teruel Exists), who is also the spokesperson for the Asociación de Ramaderos y Agricultores de Teruel (Herders and Farmers Association of Teruel).

 

- Javier Esparcia Pérez: Dr in Geography and Sociology. Full Professor on Geographical Analysis. Inter-university Institute for Local Development.

- Luís del Romer Renau: Dr in Geography. Responsible for the area of Human Geograpohy at the Universitat de València. Specialised in Planning.

- Javier Solsona Monzonís: Dr in Geography. Specialised on Rural Tourism. Head of the Service of Marketing of the Valencian Agency for Tourism.

- Encarna Recio Alonso: Technical Agricultural Engineer. Agrofood Entrepreneur and Tourism. Deputy Mayor of Llaures dels Olmos.

- Teresa Vayá Vidal: Touristic Entrepreneur in Vistabella del Maestrat.

- César Izquierdo Tena: Farming Businessperson. Member of “Teruel Existe”. Spokesperson of Plataforma de Agricultores y Ramaderos Teruel (Herders and Farmers Platform Teruel).

- Cristina Benlloch Doménech: Dr in Social Sciences. Specialised in Immigration in Rural Territories. Gender and Migration.

We will tackle, among other, topics such as:

 - Rural exodus and new migration waves.

 - Globalisation, Internet and ICT in rural areas.

 - The existence of new neo-rural movements.

 - Foreign and national immigration in rural settings.

 - Economic activities, entrepreneurship and women entrepreneurs in depopulated areas.

 - Public policies in depopulated settings.

 - Problems and possible solutions.
