This seminar centers on Self-determination theory (SDT). This theory is a general motivation theory, which assumes that people have the inherent potential to grow, but they need to feel satisfied in their basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Research using SDT to understand employee motivation is growing, but suffers from conceptual and methodological shortcomings. We will consider these issues and evolutions in the study of work motivating from the perspective of SDT.

After the seminar, professor Anja Van den Broeck will also present the conference "Autonomous vs control motivation at work". Professor Van den Broeck will explain and discuss different approaches on motivation theories applied to the work context.
