Laboratory of Social Cognitive Neuroscience (LabNSC)

In recent decades, research in the area of Neurosciences has made startling discoveries that have transformed and improved our understanding about brain function. This has contributed to the development of new treatments and therapies for several neurological and mental disorders. The convergence of different disciplines has made possible to deal with fundamental issues, allowing us to better understand the behavior and emotions in humans. Our group is part of this area, the Neurosciences, one of the most exciting areas of research in Health Sciences.

The Laboratory of Social Cognitive Neuroscience (LabNSC) is a research group from the University of Valencia (nº of reference GIUV2015-215), included in the Department of Psychobiology and IDOCAL, at the Faculty of Psychology. The LabNSC has developed, since its inception, research focused on investigating the biological basis of animal and human response to social interactions, especially stress. Specifically, we are interested in the psychobiological mechanisms involved when we are faced with a stressful situation and its effects on cognitive and affective functions.

Researches performed in our laboratory use an integrative approach based on the convergence of multiple methodologies of study in humans and mice, allowing us to understand the effects of stress on the brain, and consequently in behavior.

In our human studies we use comprehensive neuropsychological and electrophysiological evaluations, and neuroendocrine response analysis, being our target population both young and old men and women. The works we carry out in mice are focused on the application of different paradigms of stress and the assessment of the effects in their behavior.
