A total of 30 Universitat de València students, distributed in 6 teams, will face each other with their arguments at the Local Phase of the Lliga de Debat Universitària (University Debate League) that will take place from February 5th to 7th at La Nau Cultural Centre (Seminar Rooms). The debate’s theme is: “Does the current education system guarantee people’s progress?”. Is the same theme that will be the focus of the University Debate League of the Xarxa Vives, which takes place this year at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona) in April.

The competition will consist of a knockout phase, semi-finals and finals. Each team, led by its captain, will have to defend its position by drawing lots (for or against the debate’s theme) within its turns, controlled to the second by chronometer. Furthermore, during the debate, they will not be able to use the internet or any electronic equipment.

The jury of the domestic league is made up by teaching stuff of the Universitat. This jury will be in charge for selecting the winning team for each of the debates, as well as designating the student for best speaker. At the end of the local phase, a commission made up of members of the jury, the teachers of the preliminary preparation course and SeDi technicians will choose the 5 students who will make up the Universitat de València's team for the Xarxa Vives d’Universitats Debate League.
