Computing Service of the Universitat de València (SIUV) has completed the installation and configuration of the new LluisVives v2 and Tirant v3 supercomputers, located in its new Data Processing Center (CPD), at the Burjassot / Paterna Campus. The power of calculation of the Universitat at the disposal of researchers is multiplied by 10. The new supercomputers also mean significant energy savings and lower maintenance costs.

LluisVives v2 multiplies by 20 the power of its predecessor -LluisVives v1-, and its storage by 10. Specifically, it has a total power of 82 Tflops (Rpeak) and 346 TB of storage based on luster. LluisVives v2 has been specifically designed to grow, so that new investments can be installed with little effort and integrated into the same cluster management system.

The team consists of 20 nodes for MPI calculations. Each of them has two Intel Xeon Skylake Gold 6154 processors from 18c to 3.0 GHz and 192 GB of DDR4 RAM (720 cores in total). It also has two nodes for OpenMP calculation. Each one consists of four Intel Xeon Skylake Gold 6154 processors from 18c to 3.0 GHz and 1.5 TB of DDR4 RAM. In addition, it is equipped with 346 TB of Luster-based storage, and of a Infiniband EDR 100 Gbps network with a fat tree topology of 2: 1

Tirant v3, the team that services the Singular Distributed Scientific Technical Infrastructure RES (Spanish Supercomputing Network), also substantially improves the capacity of its predecessor. The current version consists of 336 calculation nodes. Each one with two Intel Xeon SandyBridge E5-2670 processors at 2.6 Ghz and 32 GB DDR3 RAM (5,376 cores). It also has 240 TB of storage based on Luster, and a network Infiniband FDR10 40 Gbps with a topology fat tree non-blocking

These elements provide the new Tirant with 111.8 Tflops of performance (Rpeak) and 10 TB of distributed RAM. With the new version, not only is the power of the v2 multiplied by five, but we completely change technology so that the power consumption is reduced by up to 30 kWh.

In the new Data Processing Center of the SIUV, an area has been specifically designed to support the equipment for scientific calculation. In it, a specially reinforced technical floor has been installed, new high-power electrical connections and cooling systems based on the use of refrigerated rear doors. With the unification of the two CPDs that the SIUV managed in Burjassot, better management and control of resources is achieved.
