Professors José Manuel Pavía and Priscila Espinosa have presented their work "Estimation of the impact of the DANA on the growth of the Valencian Community: preliminary evaluation". Together they analyse the economic impact of the DANA of October 2024 on the Valencian Community.
Its objective is to quantify the direct and consequential losses in the regional GDP, having into account the effects on key factors such as agriculture, industry, tourism and services. The methodology that they have used combines disaggregated municipal data and sectoral recovery curves under three scenarios (fast, expected and slow).
Lastly, results estimate a reduction of the economic growth of two tenths in 2024 and 2025, followed by a bounce back in 2026. For their part, losses would be concentrated in industry and agriculture, with a faster recovery in construction. In conclusion, the need of resilient politics to face climate change is argued.
