The director of ValenciaPort Chair of Port Economics participates in an online debate on globalisation in the face of a global polycrisis

On 23 November, Professor Vicente Pallardó spoke at the Foro Futuro, the economic research observatory, organised by the Cinco Días newspaper and the Santander Group.

The professor of Economic Structure of the UV, Vicente J. Pallardó López shared his vision on globalisation and its future. In his opinion, announcing the death of globalisation is a "somewhat exaggerated" idea. However, Pallardó does believe that, since the 2008 financial crisis, the globalisation process has slowed down or even stagnated.

Pallardó explained that "due to economic and non-economic, conjunctural and structural factors, globalisation could be heading for a serious setback". But this setback would have "enormous economic and not only economic costs, it would entail a great risk of fragmenting the economy and international societies and reversing the process of globalisation that we have been developing over the last few decades", said the director of the Valenciaport Chair.

The debate  was streamed on 23 November, at 9 a.m.  In addition to Vicente Pallardó, the meeting featured other economists who analysed the impact of a new bloc economy on geopolitical relations, how protectionist policies can aggravate inflationary tensions, and whether the trend towards less economic integration is a temporary phenomenon or the beginning of the era of "de-globalisation", among other current economic issues.
