Conversation groups are a way to improve your oral skills (speaking, comprehension and interaction) with other participants that have the same language level. There are group leaders who introduce different speaking situations, activities and topics and they also correct and explain the students' mistakes. To register you must have some basic knowledge or have successfully completed the previous level of the language. You can improve all levels in our Language Learning Centres (CAL). 

Who can register?

Staff and students of the University of Valencia, Alumni UV Premium members and UV's Language Centre students.

From 18 September and throughout the academic year (if there are places available). OPEN

How do I register?

– If you have a language certificate recognised by the University of Valencia not older than three years (check the Catalan certificates here and the certificates for other languages here):

1. Choose a group of the next level (see groups and timetables below).
2. Send an email to the language learning centre (CAL) on your campus to apply for the group you want to join (language, level and timetable) and attach your certificate.
3. If there are places available, we will send you an email with the necessary information to complete the registration; if not, we will inform you of the alternatives for your language and level.

– If you do not have the language certificate required:

1. Contact the language learning centre (CAL) on your campus and ask for a placement test (a short conversation to find out your level).
2. With the level assigned you can choose a group of the next level (see groups and timetables below).
3. If there are places available, we will send you an email with the necessary information to complete the registration; if not, we will inform you of the alternatives for your language and level.

– If you joined a conversation group during this academic year or the last one, you can register in a group of the same language and level (without taking a placement test or providing a certificate):

1. Choose a group of the same level (see groups and timetables below).
2. Contact the language learning centre on your campus to complete your registration.
3. If there are places available, we will send you an email with the necessary information to complete the registration; if not, we will inform you of the alternatives for your language and level.

Location

Conversation groups are held in the classrooms of the language learning centres (CAL) or in a classroom on the corresponding campus.

Price

• Catalan: free of charge
• English, French, German: €21

All conversation groups are free of charge.

Schedule

1 hour per week (2 for the German introductory workshops), from 2 October to 31 May

Attendance

Attendance at the first session after registration is mandatory. Failure to attend when there is a waiting list will result in losing the place assigned and being moved to the bottom of the list. Students with three consecutive unexcused absences will be dropped from the group (you have to re-register to rejoin). Certificates of attendance or achievement will not be issued.
