Sundays at the Historical Library!

Due to the health crisis, we moved our initiative "Sundays at the Historical Library" to Instagram. Follow us on @bibliotequesuv!!

The Historical Library will open the doors of the Duc de Calàbria Exhibition Hall every Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm. The visit will be free.

These visits will allow contemplating a selection of facsimiles of the most representative works of the Universitat’s bibliographical heritage. Unique works, many of them unique in the world.

This initiative aims at bringing the library's collection closer to the general public and raising awareness of the importance of preserving this heritage, which belongs to all Valencian people, not only because of its value, but also as a source of knowledge.

Visitors can admire Claudio Ptolomeo's world map, with his vision of the world in the II century AD; the illustrated codices that the Duke of Calabria brought to Valencia in 1527; les Obres o Trobes en Lahors de la Verge Maria, the first literary book printed in the Iberian Peninsula; or the fantastic incunabulum of Tirant lo Blanc, which came out of Nicolás Spindeler's Valencian printing office in 1490.

The hall is on the first floor of La Nau’s building. The original nineteenth-century furniture is preserved, and its shelves and cupboards with grilles guard a wonderful collection of prints.

In the centre of the hall stand out two spheres, a celestial one and an earthly one, originally from the XVII century, work of the Dutch cartographers Wilhelm and Joan Blaeu.

At the end of the tour, there is also a temporary divulgation area where the library will offer small samples of its rich and varied collection. This March, two showcases group together a selection of original works on the origins and evolution of the Fallas festival declared a World Heritage Site in 2016.
