The consortium of Valencian public university libraries held a working meeting that included the presentation of the Pressreader resource.

On 30 October 2025, the University of Valencia hosted the 1st BUVAL Meeting, organised by the Servei de Biblioteques i Documentació. The event, held at La Nau Building, brought together around 45 representatives from all the Valencian universities that form part of the BUVAL Consortium.

The opening session, held in the Chapel of Sapience, featured welcoming remarks by Cristina Tomás, Technical Director of the BUVAL Consortium, and Carlos Hermenegildo, Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Valencia.

The programme included parallel meetings of BUVAL’s working groups, which reviewed the activities carried out during the previous period and planned the lines of action for 2025–2026. The participating groups were Acquisitions, Open Science, Interlibrary Loan, Web and Communication, and Library Management Systems.

Among the main conclusions, the participants agreed to prioritise consolidating the operation of the working groups according to the approved framework document, promoting projects derived from the analysis of cooperation models, and advancing the definition of a joint visibility strategy for the BUVAL Consortium.

The meeting provided an opportunity to share experiences, strengthen cooperation, and reinforce the commitment of Valencian universities to collaboration and innovation in library services. The final part of the meeting featured the talk “More sources, fewer hoaxes: UV’s commitment to a critical community”, by María Iranzo-Cabrera, Coordinator of the Journalism Degree at the University of Valencia, and the presentation of PressReader, a platform providing digital versions of over 7,000 newspapers and magazines in more than 60 languages, with interventions by Josine De Wolde and Xavier García.
