Loan regulations for all the libraries of the University of Valencia

(printable version)

Statement of reasons

With this regulation, the University of Valencia wants to regulate the loan of its documentary and bibliographic collections and allow its use to the members of the university community and other authorised people during a certain period, as well as promoting the circulation of the collections and to facilitate the access both to students and researchers.

The regulation also regulates the loan of laptops in order to ensure the access of all members of the university community to the new information technologies.

Article 1. Users

It can access to the loan services:

1. All members of the university community, regardless the centre or service to which they belong:

a) Teaching and research staff (PDI)

b) Students

c) Administrative and services staff (PAS)

2. Members of Friends and Former Students of the University of Valencia.

3. Students of exchange programmes.

4. Professors and researchers and visitor researchers.

5. Groups and users and authorised users and authorised people under the agreements subscribed by the University of Valencia.

6. Retired staff of the PDI and PAS collectives.

In any case, for using the loan service you should present the university ID that identifies the holder as a member of the University. The library staff also can ask you for your ID or similar documentation to prove that the holder of the university ID is the real holder. This will be essential when loaning laptops.

In case of loss or theft of the university ID the user must communicate this fact to the library so they can take the necessary measures to prevent any misuse.

Article 2. Documents subject to loan

1. All documents kept in the libraries of the University are subject to loan with the following exceptions:

a) Reference works

b) Journals

c) Manuscripts and documents of special heritage value

1. The return of the documents should be done at the same library in which you have borrowed them. If you don’t return the documents in the required period, the library will demand them by email or letter. The delay in the return of the works will suppose a day without borrowing for each day of delay and book.

2. In case of not returning or deteriorating the bibliographical material, the users must buy a new one or deposit the value of the same in the bank account of the University of Valencia, except in the case that there is no negligence by the borrower.

3. While this requirement is not accomplished the user cannot use the loan service, notwithstanding the measures in application of the law.

Article 6. Intercampus loan

1. The professors, PAS and students with disabilities can choose in which library they want to collect the works borrowed. In case that they apply for a document in one library and they collect it where they want it, the library will process an intercampus loan.

2. Any user can use the intercampus loan for requesting works from the deposit of the library.

Article 7. Loan conditions for laptops

1. The Libraries and Documentation Service will give the opportunity to students, professors and the administrations services staff of the University of Valencia of borrowing laptops in order to access to electronic information through the WiFi network of the University of Valencia.

2. The loan period for a laptop is one day.

3. The users are responsible of the laptop and its security. The users cannot modify or manipulate the configuration or the content of the computer and they should return it in the same conditions in which they borrowed.

4. It is responsibility of the users to keep the information that they create in external storage devices (pen driver, disk space, email, etc.) and do not leave a copy in the borrowed laptop. The University is not responsible of the lost or use of this information.

Article 8. Return of laptops

1. The return of the laptop should be done at the desk of the library where you borrowed it.

2. The delay returning the laptop will mean the cancellation of the loan service during one day per each day of delay.

3. If the user causes damages to the laptop should pay the cost of repairing the equipment and the loan service will be cancelled until he/she didn’t make the corresponding payment, except in the cases in which there is no negligence by the borrower.

4. If the user doesn’t return the laptop, they must deposit in the bank account of the University of Valencia the corresponding cost, except in the case in which there is no negligence by the borrower.

5. While these requirements are not accomplished the user cannot use the loan service again.
The measures above mentioned must be adopted without prejudice of the eventual legal responsibility in which would have been incurred the user.
