On June 8th and 9th, the 1st Spanish-language Actuarial Colloquium will be held virtually. With the participation of Enrique Devesa, lecturer in the Master's Degree in Actuarial and Financial Sciences at the UV.

This colloquium will be attended by leading professionals in the Spanish-speaking actuarial field from countries such as Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil and Portugal, who will discuss 4 main themes.

On Wednesday June 8th, at 16.00 h., "Social welfare: an analysis of models and complementarity" will be discussed. This first session will be attended by Enrique Devesa, lecturer in the Master's Degree in Actuarial and Financial Sciences at the Universitat de València, Enrique Devesa, head of the Department of Financial and Actuarial Economics at the UV and researcher at the Research Institute on Social Welfare Policy (Polibienestar) and at the IVIE (Valencian Institute of Economic Research).

The second session on June 8th at 18.30 h. will focus on "Professionalism: models of articulation and development of the actuarial profession". The responsibilities of actuaries have evolved and new competencies have been added. Uncertainty, risk, data analysis, etc. have not changed much, but what has changed is everything related to the evolution of the actuarial profession: regulation, applications, Solvency II, etc. All of this will be analysed in this session, along with professionalism and the profession's Core Syllabus.

On Thursday, June 9th, at 16.00 h., experts will address the topic of "Sustainability and climate change". The effects of climate change have a major impact on insurers and actuaries working in risk assessment and management, and the incorporation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into investment strategies is at the heart of the concerns of insurers and financial institutions around the world.

Finally, "Health insurance after the pandemic" will be the fourth and last session, at 18.30 h. on June 9th. This is an essential topic at the moment, as the pandemic has greatly increased interest in health insurance. In fact, between the end of 2019 and December 2021, health policies grew by 8%. In this period, around 1.3 million citizens took out a health insurance policy.

This colloquium was co-organised by the Instituto de Actuarios Españoles and the International Actuarial Association. The event is free, but places are limited and registration is required on this website.
