Eight featurettes in favour of gender equality

Eight featurettes in favour of gender equality

To commemorate the International Women’s Day next 8 March, Valencia’s Film Library will present four featurettes on gender inequality and sexist violence.

7 march 2016

On behalf of the International Women’s Day, Valencia’s Film Library hosts next Tuesday Eight features: featurettes on March 8 put to debate, a leisure activity which seeks to make spectators reflect on the different social, familiar and professional barriers which women face in our current society.

The programme includes four featurettes which tackle topics such as sexist violence, sexist language, gender roles and sexism associated to new technologies (such as controlling your couple through social networks). The synopses are the following:

Diana en la red (Diana Online, Cristina Linares).  Diana checks her Facebook everyday in order to update her status. Her timeline will show us how her situation changes when Rocky enters her life. At the same time, her mate Sebastián will show us the unkindness side of family relationships through his photography work.

Superhéroes (Natxo Alapont and Abdelatif Hwidar).  Carmen works as a hospital pharmacist. Because of that she has to be on duty sometimes. Carmen is on duty today so she won’t take his son to the cinema. The child is pissed off for he has to be at home with his father. His annoyance disappears when he realizes that “with great power comes a great responsibility”.

Hechos son amores (Carlos Crespo). Ana’s birthday party is the setting in which different relationship conflicts are told and how the protagonists face them.

Se dice poeta (Sofía Castañón). It is a documentary in which 21 female authors analyse the role of our language as a source of discrimination against women and their lack of visibility as art makers.

The featurettes will be showed in Sala Luis García Berlanga, Edificio Rialto, at 10h. Free entry until full capacity. It is necessary to join in by sending an email losada_carkun@gva.es or by calling telephone number 963539308. This project has been planed by Generalitat Valenciana, CulturArts-IVAC and MakinAcción. Cortos por la Igualdad also colaborates.
