*The University of Valencia launches the European Summer School in big data “Challenges for the 21st century: data, information and communication”*
**The amazing volume of data generated by today's society, its management and applications, are the great revolution of the 21st century and the challenge for professionals entering the labour market, both in the field of economic, technological and communication. Universitat de València faces this challenge with the setting up of the Summer School “Challenges for the 21st century: data, information and communication”, which celebrates its first edition between June 26 and July 5, 2018.
From a multidisciplinary approach and with the support of the Utrecht Network – a network that integrates 32 universities from 27 European countries-, the School of Engineering, the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication have jointly organized a course aimed at undergraduate and graduate students interested in deepen management tools and applications of a sector in exponential growth. The two-week Summer School has a theoretical and practical character and will give students a certificate of 4 ECTS. The course will be taught in English and will host a maximum of 25 students, who may benefit from grants offered by the Utrecht Network and the University of Valencia.
The Summer School will feature renowned professors of various European universities and professionals working in the field of data management and company managers who have developed applications. The program includes sessions that deal with diverse issues, such as analytical or management of large databases to open tools, cloud computing and the open data, cybersecurity and privacy, applications in social sciences and management of consumers or text mining, and data visualization. El vertiginós volum de dades que genera la societat actual, la seua gestió i aplicacions, constitueixen la gran revolució del segle XXI i el repte per als professionals que s'incorporen al món laboral, tant en l'àmbit econòmic i tecnològic com de la comunicació. La Universitat de València afronta aquest desafiament amb la posada en marxa de la Summer School Challenges for the XXI century: data, information and communication, que celebrarà la seua primera edició entre el 26 de juny i el 5 de juliol de 2018.
Des d'un enfocament multidisciplinari i amb el suport de la Utrecht Network -la xarxa que integra a 32 universitats de 27 països europeus-, l’Escola Tècnica Superior d'Enginyeria, la Facultat d’Economia i la Facultat de Filologia, Traducció i Comunicació han organitzat un curs dirigit a estudiants de grau i postgrau interessats a aprofundir en les eines de gestió i aplicacions d'un sector en creixement exponencial. La Summer School, de dues setmanes de durada, té un caràcter teòrico-pràctic i atorgarà als alumnes un certificat de 4 crèdits. El curs s'impartirà en anglès i acollirà a un màxim de 25 estudiants, que podran beneficiar-se de les beques que ofereixen la Utrecht Network i la Universitat de València.
La Summer School comptarà amb prestigiosos professors de diverses universitats europees, professionals de prestigi en l'àmbit de la gestió de dades i responsables d'empreses que han desenvolupat aplicacions. El programa inclou sessions en les quals s'aborden des de l'analítica o la gestió de grans bases de dades a les eines en obert, el cloud computing i l’open data, passant per la ciberseguretat i privacitat, les aplicacions en ciències socials i gestió de consumidors o el text mining i la visualització de dades.
