Welcome to the 2020-2021 academic year

The end of the summer has arrived…. and here we are again, ready to start a new course, excited to welcome new faces and eager to meet up again with our old classmates.

The Facultat d'Economia faces this academic year 2020-2021 with our well-known motivation of serving students in particular and society in general. It is true that health conditions impose serious restrictions on us, but with the collaboration of all we are convinced that we will be able to resume our study and research routines and revalidate the successes of previous years.

What changes this course? Much and little, honestly. We will continue learning, but we will have to modify small and large habits, reflected in the "Directrius generals de prevenció i protecció enfront de la covid-19 en l'àmbit de la docència presencial del curs 2020-2021", ["General guidelines for prevention and protection against covid-19 in the field of face-to-face teaching in the first semester of the 2020-2021 academic year]. They essentially can be summed up as being responsible in three big questions: social distance, hygiene and personal commitment.

On the first day of our arrival at the Faculty, we will already find a big difference: no more hugs and effusive expressions of affection, which will have to be redirected towards looks and conversations, at a safe distance and with the use of a face mask. Please always respect the interpersonal distance of at least 1.5 meters with anyone you interact with.

The use of a face mask is mandatory throughout your stay at the Faculty. Although you can maintain a safe distance, inside or outside the classrooms, this does not exempt the use of a mask at any time. Bring your mask, remember the recommendations of the health authorities abouth the use of masks. Also think about the environment when choosing your mask, if you are healthy and choose a reusable one, we all win.

Wash your hands, thoroughly, and use the hydroalcoholic gel when you cannot wash. Keep an eye on your respiratory tag, and if you cough or sneeze, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your elbow if you don't have one handy.

All spaces now have limited capacity, check the posters, also the toilets, or the elevators. What if you take the opportunity to do without the elevator, gaining in health safety and physical fitness? Respect the direction of movement in the corridors and the stairs going up or down, thus avoiding crowds and contacts.

Carefully review your schedule, identify the classroom you have to go, go directly there and avoid unnecessary trips. Try to occupy the same seat throughout the day. Remember that if your schedule says "Virtual Classroom", that class will be online.

Besides, stay at home on the days that you only have an online class, because precisely that is another of the changes that we will have to take on this course: let's minimize our presence on campus. And, when you go, remember not to stay in corridors and common areas in the breaks between classes, go out to open spaces. At the end of your school hours, you must leave the University facilities.

Personal commitment is key to avoiding risks. If you feel bad or perceive any of the symptoms compatible with covid-19 ... STAY AT HOME. For you, for everyone. Contact the teaching staff and we will do all the necessary to keep you up to date, as much as your state of health allows. Likewise, if you are diagnosed with the disease or if you have been warned that you have been in close contact with a contagion, stay home, rest, recover, and avoid the spread of the virus.

Perhaps, after reading all this you think it will be complicated, but we are convinced that in a few days we will have assumed this "new normality", which we were already applying in certain spheres of our lives in the previous weeks.

First of all, RESPONSIBILITY. We are the Faculty of Economics, we know that the economy cannot afford another confinement. And we are University, from the Latin "universitas", the universal, the whole. We care about the health and well-being of everyone. We are going to give an excellent social example that the university community knows how to behave and continue learning and teaching, making this a better world.
