She presented her last research. Her team has developed an original methodology using mouse testing to study the effects of alcohol consumption during the pregnancy and the prenatal period and subsequent development of the offspring.  Excessive alcohol use during pregnancy does not result in physical malformations during puberty. However, it does cause alterations in the behaviour and the capacity of learning.

Further important alterations have also been observed. They have also assessed nerve damage and have found evidence of neuro-inflammatory signs in different areas of the brain. In addition, they remarked the reduction of the proteins responsible of the demyelination and the alteration of brain connections.

All these results match with the results of the behavioural testing, pointing out that these animals had suffered an increase of alcohol and cocaine use.

Her work is pioneer in the study of the prenatal effects of drug consumption and opens the possibility to further research that indicate the importance of stress the study of the initial use of drugs.
