Dr. María José Ruiz and Dr. Jordi Mañes Have been designated members Of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Agency of Consumption, Food Safety and Nutrition (AECOSAN).

Dr. María José Ruiz and Dr. Jordi Mañes, professors of the Department of Preventive Medicine, have been designated members of the Food Security and Nutrition Section of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Agency for Consumption, Food Safety and Nutrition (AECOSAN).

The Scientific Committee is the consulting organism of Risk Assessment that assumes the functions of providing scientific advice to the AECOSAN, defines the scope of the research required for their functions and coordinates the work of the expert groups in the framework of the Agency activities. It is composed of two sections, Food Safety and Nutrition and also Consumer affairs.
 
The functions of the section on Food Security and Nutrition is to promote the safety at all stages of the food chain by completing activities relating to risk assessment, offering guarantees and objective information to consumers and traders of the Spanish food industry, as well as to plan, coordinate and develop strategies and actions to provide information, education and health promotion in the field of nutrition, particularly in the prevention of obesity.
