Master's Degree in Perinatal and Child Psychology and Psychopathology

Interview to Marifex Arteaga, master's alumn

5 july 2017

- Why did you choose this Master’s Degree?

I chose to study this Master’s Degree because since 2nd year I decided I wanted to focus my career on the intervention with early childhood, and this Master’s Degree was the only one that offered such training.

- In overall terms, how would you appreciate your experience?

Very good, but I guess it will be better next year because we will start our internships.

- What kind of subjects is studied in this master’s degree and what contents can I expect to find in them?

The course is divided in 7 modules that cover from gestation, baby’s psychomatics, baby’s development, their mental health and child’s development in school.

- What can you tell us regarding teaching staff and training methodology?
Obviously, there is a lot of theory. Nevertheless, many professors show us some cases, whether in paper or videos, in which we have to contribute ideas and observe how they intervene in each situation.

- Are there any practical lessons? What did you learn in them?

Yes. Some professors, specially those who come from other countries, bring us practical cases in video, explain us the techniques they use and ask how would we approach the cases.

- Regarding your Master’s Degree Final Project, what approach did you use and what do you think it provided you with, professionally speaking?

I will be doing it next year, but I would like to elaborate it based on a case I treat in my internship centre.

- Which are the job opportunities once finished the master’s degree?

Working in the area of early childhood, 0-6 years old. Nevertheless, it is mandatory to study the General Health master’s degree in order to be authorised to work in the health sector.
