Universitat de València´s karate and rugby teams have participated, for the first time, in the The 3rd edition of the European Universities Games 2016 As to the women´s karate team, it has won a bronze medal. The event is taking place in Croatian cities of Zagreb and Rijeka where more than five thousand students from 45 different counties and 300 universities have gathered. This makes it one of the most popular sporting events among university sportspeople.

Karate and rugby have already begun in mini-leagues, the seven-a-side women´s football team will play this afternoon, while the men´s and women´s volleyball, judo, swimming and taekwondo will begin next week.
The rugby teams have competed in most matches of the league. The women´s team managed to win against the Universities of Porto, Coimbra and Zagreb. However, they lost against the French team from Paris University. The girls from Ana Aigneren will play this morning in the last match of the group phase against University of Gloucestershire (UK). Depending on the results, the team might get to fight for the medals in the play offs which will take place on Friday. The men´s team, whose coach is Marcos Armiñana, also started off the competition quite well, beating Georgia University, but failed trying to beat Lisboa and later Georgia in the first part of the competition. On Wednesday they managed to beat University of Šiauliai. Just like it is the case with the women´s team, this Thursday the play-offs will take place, depending of course on the results of the other matches.
As to the karate team, it won a bronze medal in women´s kata, with Inma Peris, Laura Crespo, Sara Piñango and Noelia Sierra as protagonists. What´s more, Inma Peris almost made it in the category individual kata, where she got 5th place.
A good result was also achieved in kumite by the women´s teams, where the group formed by Laura Crespo, Noelia Sierra, Aura Csongradi, Sara Piñango and Inma Peris almost classified for the finals. It was University of Matej Bel (Slovakia) and Liubliana (Slovenia) that prevented them from classifying.
The seven-a-side women´s football team didn´t take part in the first part of the league, and dedicated the morning to polishing their skills. The girls, coached by, J. Andrés Menchero, will play for the first time this afternoon at 7 p.m., against the Norwegian School of Economics (Norway) and will appear in their second match on Friday, also at 7 p.m., against University of Frankfurt (Germany).
Next week, the volleyball team will participate on Monday in international games for the second time this year. The team won its second university medal in Soria.
With regard to judo, swimming, and taekwondo teams, the competitions will start next Saturday, the 23rd of July.
