The Faculty of Mathematics of the UV counts, since last Thyursday, with a new Dean: full-university professor Juan Monterde. The voting outcome has been 27 for and two blank ones. The team includes Luis Marco Montoro, Rosa Donat Beneyto and Lucía Sanus Victoria. Monterde takes on Rafael Crespo’s position.

Juan Monterde started his studies on Mathematics in 1979 and obtained his doctoral qualification in 1988. Professor since 1984, starting at the University College of Castellón, he joined the Universitat de València in 1991.

He is currently a full-university professor at the Department of Geometry and Topology. He has carried out research placements at the CSIC’s Mathematics Institute of Madrid, in the École Polytechnique de Palaiseau (France), in the Mathematics Research Centres (CIMAT) in Guanajuato (México), at Bradford University (UK) and the Universidade de Sao Paulo a Sao Carlos (Brazil).

His research has been developed in two directions.  On the one hand, mathematical physics (Poisson, and sympletic varieties, supervarieties.   On the other hand, geometric techniques applied to computer design of curves and surfaces .

During the last school years, Juan Monterde has been the director of the Master’s degree in Mathematical Research, as well as of the Doctoral studies in Mathematics. Collaborate with the organisation of the Canguro mathematical contest for secondary education students.
