Sir John Elliott's influence on the universities as specialist in European modern history is prominent from mid sixties, when his work L'Espanya Imperial (The Imperial Spain) became first in bedside book of British and American students interested in the history of Spain, and immediately in compulsory point of reference for the new generations of Spanish historians trained under the teaching of the professor Joan Reglà. The approaches of his work La revolta dels catalans (The revolt of the Catalans) (1963) have become part of manuals and text books. From his chair in Cambridge, and afterwards in Princeton and Oxford, Elliott has created a school of British and American historians that have given a new boost to the history of the Habsburg's Spain.
