Biographical outline:

Miquel Dolç i Dolç (Sta. Mª del Camí, Mallorca 1912 - Madrid 1994), philologist, humanist and translator, studied Classical Philology in the University of Barcelona and received the doctorate in Madrid in 1951. After achieve the Ephedra of Lari of the I.B of Osca, he gained Latin Philology's in the University of Seville (1955), and he moved two years later to the University of Valencia until 1968, and eventually, to the Autonomous University of Madrid until his retirement.

As translator of the Latin classics to Catalan, it is especially remarkable his version - in prose and verse - of Virgil, apart from an important number of other authors within the Bernat Metge Foundation, the Executive Council of which he took part. As well, his studies and essays on both classical topics and Catalan authors are very important.

Miquel Dolç was member of the Catalan Studies Institute and the Academia de Buenas Letras of Barcelona, among other institutions. Of the awards he has received, it is important to mention the Alfons Bonay awards, the Fastenrath, the National of Translation and the Critics of Serra d'Or. From his beginning (1988) he was general director of the Gran Enciclopedia of Mallorca.
