He was born in Havana (Cuba) in 1936. His university academic training has provided to him philological and linguistic knowledge that have allowed him to focus his work in two directions: the study of language and literature, in themselves or in their relationship to each other.
A brief review of their teaching corroborates, with the Chair of Linguistics at the University of Puerto Rico (1973-2000), that he has been a visiting lecturer in more than thirty-five universities and institutions, both nationals and foreigners; including: Institute Caro and Cuervo, Bogotá (1972,1993,1994,1995), the University of the Basque Country (1983, 1995), the Gotenborg University, Gothenburg ( 1985), the Katholieke Universiteit Leaven , Leuven (1992) , the University of Alcalá, Alcalá de Henares, Spain (1993,1997,1998,1999,2000,2001,2002), University of Cádiz, Spain(1996-1997), University of Turku , Finland (1998), University of Salamanca, Spain(2002) and The City University of New York , Graduate Center , New York (2006).
Regarding the research activity of Professor Humberto López it should be highlighted that he has developed more than three hundred interventions in Conferences and Symposium, national and international, along with the management of twenty Master’s projects and twenty-three doctoral thesis. The result of this research activity is publications, totaling more than forty books and three hundred articles.
