Biographical outline:

Santiago Muñoz Machado (Pozoblanco, Córdoba, 1949) is full university professor of Administrative Law in the Complutense University of Madrid. He has been elected to occupy the "r" of the Spanish Royal Academy and he is also full member of the Royal Academy for Moral and Political Sciences. Just like that, he is member of the Law and Social Sciences National Academy in Buenos Aires and of the International Academy of Comparative Law.

After working for the Head of Government for several years, in his condition as member of the Technical Body of Civil Administration of the State, he obtained by public examination two jobs, first as pre-tenured professor of the Complutense University, and as tenure-track 2 and full university professor of the faculties of Law in the University of Valencia and University of Alcalá de Henares afterwards. He has also taught in different European and American universities.

He belongs to the editorial councils of several Spanish and foreign magazines and manages the Revista General de Derecho Administrativo (General Magazine of Administrative Law) (electronic) and El Cronista del Estado Social y Democrático de Derecho (The reporter of the Social and Democratical State of Law). His legal work is formed by more than forty books and a hundred of articles.

Among his most influential studies those referred to the third sector and the social activity of the State stand out, those dealing with the Law of the Autonomous Communities and those addressed to the Law of the economic regulation. And his important work of synthesis, projecting in five volumes of which up to now he has published four (with a total of more than five thousand pages), titled Tratado de Derecho Administrativo y Derecho Público General, is the work of reference in the field, both in Spain and other countries. Apart from his strictly legal work, he is author of short stories (Riofrío, 2010, with quite broad spreading), historical researchings (El problema de la vertebración del Estado en España, 2006), biographical studies of historical character (Sepúlveda, cronista del Emperador, 2012) and essays on current issues (Informe sobre España: repensar el Estado o destruirlo, of which three editions between November and December 2012 have been done).
