Biographical outline:

Virginia Trimble (Los Angeles, 1943), studied Astronomy and Physics in the University of California in Los Angeles, getting her doctorate in Astronomy in CalTech, and the Master of Arts in the University of Cambridge (England), in 1969.

She has worked as professor and researcher in prestigious institutions as the California Institute of Technology (CalTech), the University of Cambridge, the Laboratory of Research Hughes in Malibú, the University of Maryland, the observatory of Las Cumbres (California) and the University of California in Irvine.

In 1986 she was awarded with the J. Murray Award on Scientific reviewing of the Sciences National Academy of United States. Recently the American Astronomic Society has given her the George Van Biesbroeck 2010 Award for her continued task to the service of the astronomy.

She has published more than 600 works in different fields of Astrophysics: about cosmology (dark matter, origin of the chemical elements, distribution of the galaxies, quasars), about stars (formation, binaries, pulsating, supernovas, red giants, supernova remnants), about astronomic instrumentation, as well as annual reviews since 1991 of the advances in Astrophysics. Virginia Trimble is, human and scientifically, one of the most respected and listened international personalities in Astrophysics and Cosmology. Professor Trimble is, besides, an example of courage and fight for the equality of women in the complex world of research.
