Adriano Piattelli (Francavilla al Mare-Chieti, Italy, 1951) is Professor of Oral Pathology and Medicine at the Italian Università degli Studi 'G. D'Annunzio 'Chieti-Pescara. Graduated in Medicine from the Catholic University of Rome, specializing in General Surgery at the University of Chieti and in Dentistry from the Sapienza-University of Rome, he is a Doctor of Medicine from the Catholic University Rome. Piattelli has focused his research on bone response to different biomaterials, forming one of the most important histological schools in dentistry. He is currently leading a research group for the study of regeneration and support of bone and stem cells.

In the field of university management, he was dean and director of studies and research at the University of Chieti-Pescara. Counselor of the Italian National Health Service since 1990, he has headed the Italian Medicine and Oral Pathology and Osseointegration Societies. Member of the Academy of Osseointegration and editorial boards of numerous scientific journals, he is co-author of more than 660 published articles that, with more than 9,800 citations, make him one of the most mentioned European researchers.
