Biographical outline:

José Jalife Sacala (Mexico City, 1947) is co-director of the Center for Arrhythmia Research, professor of Internal Medicine and Integrative and Molecular Physiology and The Cyrus and Jane Farrehi Professor of Cardiovascular Research at the University of Michigan.

Formed at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the National Institute of Cardiology of Mexico and at the General Hospital of Oviedo, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse and the Masonic Medical University of Utica and director of the Department of Pharmacology of the Upstate Medical University.

Dr. Jalife's research focuses mainly on the mechanisms involved in the establishment, maintenance and cessation of ventricular fibrillation, the main cause of sudden cardiac death. His research suggests that ventricular fibrillation is the result of well-organized electrical waves that rotate at highly elevated frequencies.

Author of more than three hundred scientific articles and thirty books, he has been distinguished with more than thirty high distinctions among which the prizes of the American College of Cardiology, research of the Upstate Medical University, Pierre Rijlant of the Académie Royale de médecine de Belgique stand out , and the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities.
