Biographical outline:

Josep Massot (Palma de Mallorca, November 3, 1941) comes from a family of musicians, writers and folklorists. From a young age he was in contact with the most important intellectuals in Mallorca and followed closely the teachings of Francesc de B. Moll and Manuel Sanchis Guarner.

He graduated in 1962 in Romance philology at the University of Barcelona, ​​where he had excellent teachers (Martí de Riquer, Antoni Vilanova, José M. Blecua, Antoni M. Badia and Margarit, Joan Bastardes, Joan Petit, Carlos Seco ...), and the same year he obtained the extraordinary prize of degree; At the same time he followed language and literature courses at the Catalan University Studies, with R. Aramon and Serra and Joaquim Molas. Monk of Montserrat since 1962, was ordained priest, after the ecclesiastical studies of humanities, philosophy and theology, in 1971.

He studied German language and culture at the Münsterschwarzach monastery and at the Dolmetscher Institute in Munich. Since 1992 he is director of the Publications of l'Abadia de Montserrat. He has been director for many years of the international magazine 'Studia monastica' and currently directs 'Serra d'Or' and 'Randa' (who founded the 1975); He is co-director of the 'Catalan Historical Review', published by I'Institut d'Estudis Catalanes. He was a founding member and secretary of I'Associació Internacional de Llengua i Literatura Catalanaes from 1913 to 1993, and from then until now he is a counselor, responsible for publications and coordinator of the series 'Estudis de llengua i literatura catalanes', founded in 1980.
