Biographical outline:

Professor Dawkins has taught zoology in the University of California (Berkeley) and Oxford. Since 1995 he is Fellow of New College and occupies the chair Charles Simonyi for the science public comprehension. He is author of approximately a hundred articles in scientific magazines of diverse fields as ethology, neuroscience, sociology and phylosophy. Dawkins is also author of a dozen works of scientific divulgation, most of them dealing with the biological evolution.The Selfish Gene, his first work, (1976) has been translated to the main languages and it is considered the best swork on scientific divulgation of the 20th century. Before being recognised as Honoris Causa Doctor by the University of Valencia, he has received honorific doctorates by the following universities: St. Andrews, Australian National University (Canberra), Westminster, Hull, Open University, Sussex, Durham and Brussels. Among the different prizes and awards he has been given, it is important to mention the renowned Cosmos International awardes by the Expo 90 foundation in 1997.

Professor Dawkins has been distinguished by his brilliant and passionate defense of science and rationalism. He imparts lectures all over the world and he has taking part in numerous debates on topics related to science and, especially, the evolutionary biology. Just like that, he has had a remarcable presence in audiovisual media. Because of the 30th anniversaire of the first edition of The Selfish Gene, a group of scientifics and phylosophers have published the commemorative book: Richard Dawkins: How a Scientist Changed the Way We Think.
