Born in 1951, València.

Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine and Odontology, he was elected Principal of the Universitat de València in the elections held in 2010, and re-elected in 2014.

He studied Medicine at the Universitat de València, a degree he obtained in 1974 and in 1976 he obtained his Doctorate in Medicine. He was later awarded a scholarship by the Fulbright Commission of the Ministry of Education, completing his training in the United States and the United Kingdom at John Hopkins University (1977), University of Michigan (1978) and University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, 1982-83).

Over the last few years, Dr. Esteban Morcillo has held several positions in university management, both at the University of Alcalá, where he was Vice-Principal for Research and Doctorate (1986-1988), and at the Universitat de València, where he was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Odontology of the Universitat de València for two consecutive periods (1999-2006), was Delegate of the Principal for Teaching in Care Centres (2006-2007) and Vice-Princpal for Research and Scientific Policy from 2007 to 2010.

He is also President-elect of the Spanish Society of Pharmacology.
