36 UEG del 15 AL 19 de julio

Schedule: From 18 july 2019 to 19 july 2019. Thursday and friday at 10:00 to 14:00.

Place: Centre de Gandia de la UV

Course encompassed in the 36th Summer University of Gandia

The objective of the course is to understand how contemporary nation states face local linguistic diversity and the relationships that it has with territorial organisation. On the basis of the Spanish system of language rights as the main focus of the study, similar models will be compared. There is not a correlation between state models of territorial organisation and recognition of rights for languages minority languages. Nonetheless, minority languages in multilingual nation states tend to be located in a particular region and often the systems of recognition of rights have a territorial dimension that affects several aspects of political power in a complex state (centralized/federal, autonomic/regional).
