Betera’s City Council signs an agreement with the Universitat to launch the programme UNISOCIETAT

The Principal Esteban Morcillo and the major of Bétera Cristina Alemany signed last Wednesday 4th October a collaboration agreement to implement the programme ‘Universitat i Societat’. With this agreement the Universitat de València is present in a permanent way in 11 Valencian towns through UNISOCIETAT.

Jorge Hermosilla, vice-principal for Territorial Projection and Participation of the Universitat de València; Fernando Canterino, city councilman of the Betera’s City Council and Amparo Ten, Education technical of the Consistorio del Camp de Túria were present during the agreement’s signature.

This agreement considers the implementation of UNISOCIETAT in Bétera from the following academic year 2018/2019. The complementary conference cycle will start immediately. It forecasts 8 talks along the academic year, between October and June, given by professors of the Universitat de València. Federico Pallardó (Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology) will start with the first conference about diets and healthy lifestyle next 18th October at the Bétera’s Castle. Professor Ángel Latorre (Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology) will talk next 8th November about the emotional intelligence. Julio Fernández (Department of Nursing) will give the speech ‘Abordaje de la fragilidad: un reto necesario’ next 29th November. And Amparo Oliver (Department of Behavioural Sciences Methodology) will explain the concept of training along life the 13th December.

Both the major Cristina Alemany and the Principal Esteban Morcillo highlighted the opportunity for a collaboration between public institutions in favour of the citizens training. In this sense, the principal explained that UNISOCIETAT started with the ‘firm commitment of the Universitat de València to transfer the knowledge produced from the Universitat de València to the territory with a clear regional vocation’. He also lauded the City Council’s desire to collaborate: ‘We are aware that nowadays UNISOCIETAT is a programme settled in the territory which is constantly developing thanks to the participation and the involvement of the City Councils, thanks to the will of the majors’.

After the agreement’s signature, Bétera joins UNISOCIETAT. Now there are 11 towns which participate in this training programme: Alzira, Benetússer, Cullera, Gandía, L'Eliana, Massamagrell, Ontinyent, Paterna, Quart de Poblet, Requena and Bétera. Besides, this year will start some conferences in Buñol which, after the agreement’s signature, will also become headquarters of UNISOCIETAT from the following academic year 2018/2019. Thus, the Universitat de València is present in the Valencian regions like l’Horta, la Ribera Alta, la Ribera Baixa, el Camp del Túria, la Hoya de Buñol-Chiva, la Meseta Utiel-Requena, la Vall d’Albaida or la Safor. There are 1.500 students enrolled and more than 250 professors of the Universitat de València participate for the academic year 2017/2018.
